Have you been trying to figure out how to increase your Twitter followers BUT are getting nowhere fast? While software and tools are available to help, Twitter has recently reviewed their Follow and Auto Follow policy. It is likely they will make it harder to build a profile fast using software.

I’m not going to sit on the fence here… I’ll take quality over quantity any time and would recommend taking the time to build and handpick your followers. The results will be a much more targeted group of followers that you can build relationships with. That is what networking is all about after all!

Here’s 7 Solid ways (in 140 characters or less) to build your Twitter Followers:

1. Fix your profile – add a link, offer location and succinct bio. Put up a quality photo and add a background.
2. Do not auto DM (automatic message on sign up) – most people do not enjoy getting inundated with sales pitches and greetings
3. Make sure you follow people back – and do it in a timely fashion. Every day or two have a look at new followers.
4. Don’t post excessive and exclusive links that are on sites you own – this becomes transparent (remember the timeline is public)
5. Retweet your followers postings with a kind or informative word
6. Add your Twitter profile to your blog or website – and don’t forget to ask people to follow you.
7. Tweet quality content – don’t tell me what you had for lunch, I really don’t care! If your tweet is about a passion, it will show.

The above 7 is a good starting point. Practice them for a week. Next week, I’ll have 7 more solid tips to not only increase your followers but to increase the quality of them too.
