taxilogo091Some quality methods of sending traffic to your website include search engines (using keywords & optimization), article marketing and blog commenting but nothing brings traffic quite like Twitter Traffic.

If you have targeted your followers correctly, then you have a willing and interested audience. That means that the topics you have chosen for your site articles are of interest to them. Your chances have just increased.

So here’s a few things you can do to increase the volume and quality of traffic using Twitter.

Follow the Right Crowd

Starting off with the right foot is always recommended. Don’t worry if you haven’t targeted your crowd though, it’s never to late to start. Here’s some tips to increase your Twitter followers. Finding and following, now there is another article.

There are two trains of thought for following the right crowd. Firstly, follow everybody and get a massive following. This is certainly harder to manage and becomes impersonal. Secondly, follow a smaller group of targeted users. The choices are plenty – follow by interest, quality of tweets, location, industry or a variety of demographics. My choice would

Tip – following someone that has a common interests but not expertise in your area. A good way to network (and you become the expert on your topic). For example, if you offer Twitter tips but have an interest in a sport, following people interested in that sport creates common ground but you are the expert on Twitter, so they will look to you for advice.

Fix Your Profile

Your profile is often the first thing people look at. Just like your resume, you need to make a good impression. You can always come back to it and tweak it. Here are the basics you should have in place:

  • Photo – a good image reflects who you are and demonstrates you are a real person or company that means business.
  • Link to your website – it’s there, use it. People visit them.
  • Show your location – people like to know where you are from
  • Bio – don’t just list a bunch of interests. Think about what you do and create a focus. Get creative, the more interesting, the more likely someone will be interested.
  • Create a Background – you can brand your site and add more information if you create a Twitter Background.

Post Links Sparingly

Many people post links on a daily basis to site articles, sometimes leading people to articles of lesser quality. This could scare off some users. It also goes without saying that if every posting is a self-promotion than you are clearly in it for yourself and don’t care about the rest of the community. Your followers will drop off and eventually people will stop visiting you links.

If you take the opposite approach, when you post a link, your followers will know it is a quality article worth reading and will visit in hoards. If you only do a couple postings a week, it is okay to remind them that you have put up an article. Not all of them will be on your email optin or RSS list.

Engage Your Community

This is something that in real life we all have a difficult time doing. Engaging is a two way street. The bottom line – listen and interact. People don’t like to be talked at. They like to participate. Responded to. Felt appreciated. When you have good information, instead of keeping to yourself, share it.

Ask for retweet & retweet too

The retweet (RT) is a concept that many people don’t understand. Put simply, it is sharing a tweet with your audience (the ultimate privilege). When a user tweets something, it only goes out to their followers, but by retweeting it goes out to your users too, thus expanding their reach.

Therefore, if you retweet items, not only do they appreciate it but you have a chance to share and connect other users of similar interest. If you ask people to retweet, it is like asking someone to help you. Many users enjoy this. It is, after all a community, so sharing is expected.

The combination of these 5 things will bring in a flurry of activity to your site. In fact, if you pay attention to twitter traffic and the things you do on Twitter you can eliminate the time spent on so many other aspects of traffic. By dedicating your time to one method, you not only become good at it, but you build a strong relationship and twitter traffic grows your site substantially.
